About this app

Waistline is a calorie counter and weight tracker that allows you to keep a diary of the food you eat and track variations in your weight.

All data is kept on your device, it's never shared with a server or uploaded to the "cloud" (unless you want to upload data to Open Food Facts) but it can be exported or imported easily when needed.

The app includes a barcode scanner that connects to the Open Food Facts database to pull in product information.

Best of all this app respects your freedom, data, and privacy. It is entirely free/libre and open source. The source code is available on GitHub - https://github.com/davidhealey/waistline

great when it works - I've had this app for 3 days and it has not worked for two of those days unless I restart my phone, the app, or both. It keeps giving an error ("no response from server"). I've searched online for a reason but nothing. I'm posting here hoping it is an issue on my end and the developer can give me a heads up on what I'm doing wrong. Also, it doesn't understand simple things like coffee, have to specify drip coffee and it only lets me put in grams.

I wanted to move away from MyFitnessPal and use a FOSS alternative, but this has a number of problems making it a poor replacement. It reset my settings and lost my entries twice in a short period of time. It cannot search OFF entries. This isn't the fault of Waistline but I also had so many problems just trying to make an account on OFF (they blocked all Zoho addresses, app crashes frequently, contributions disappear, other UI bugs) that this just isn't worth the hassle.

Love that the database used is OpenFoodFacts. However, it would be nice to see more integration with the database if possible. The ability to edit the database from Waistline would be a great benefit, rather than needing to also download a separate app and log into that. I can edit scanned items or create for new items, but it seems this is only local for me to see? Edit: Bigger issue is that there is no database for non-barcode items such as NUTTAB! Almost a great replacement for MyFitnessPal..

Waistline is not going to become an Open Food Facts editor (or an editor for the other databases it interacts with). Although it is possible to upload new items to the OFF database from within Waistline.
