About this app

Knowing land border wait times at the various ports of entry into the United States from both Canada and Mexico can aid the traveler in making an informed decision on when and where to cross the border. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Border Wait Times (BWT) app provides estimated wait times and open lane status 24/7 at ports of entry that process commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, and pedestrians. The BWT app breaks down wait times at each crossing by lane type (Standard, Sentri, FAST, Ready Lane, Nexus, etc.) The BWT app is a free service provided by the Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Through number of years of experience using this app. Their times are off as they post. Most of the time. I added one extra hour to their estimated time. I was right. Only few times. Their wait time was very off. Like saying 2 hrs wait but in reality it was 20 to 30 minutes and one time it was 5 min wait. They need to work hard on their waiting time much better. All their stats are based on last yr traffic. Which doesn't make sense due to border crossing closing and COVID. Don't trust the app.

Inaccurate information all the time. Wait times are usually off. San Ysidro Pedwest Crossing has been closing at 2 p.m. for months now, and the app still shows it's open 24 hours. I wasted an hour getting there and finding it was closed, then backtracking to the main Crossing. Very disappointed.
