Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

It's been over a year and 4.x remains almost unusable. Slide out menu is STILL broken, making navigation a nightmare and I constantly accidentally delete or archive things. I can't stress enough how much this breaks normal usage. Font size of UI elements remains mismatched as well. I've had to revert back to 3.x again, which thankfully still works.

Hi! The rewritten app was introduced to address the technical debt present in the previous versions, and significantly enhances the stability and reliability of the app. Please share more information regarding the issues you've experienced while using this version via the in-app 'Report a problem' feature, so we can help.

I love Proton Mail and would never go back to Gmail. This app, however, is lacking some of the features of the web client. for example, you can't view email headers. I have multiple addresses and can't even see which one received a message in this app. Apparently, the iOS version has these features. Still, the email service is great and well worth it.

Hi! You can view the message details, including the recipient address, by tapping the area where the sender is listed — just below the subject line (tap the empty space, not the sender's name directly).Thank you for your 4-star review!

I'm currently using Aquamail and would be interested in switching one of the paid versions of Proton Mail. I have 7 personal/business email addresses. The absolute best feature of Aquamail (and the reason I keep it) is the in the combined Inbox, each email's assigned color shows prominently, so I can quickly skim thru the list for emails of a particular address. If Proton Mail adds this feature, I'm all in. But right now, nope.

Thank you for your suggestion — we've passed it along to the team! At this time you can achieve better organization in Proton Mail by using custom folders ( https://proton.me/support/using-folders-labels ) and filters ( https://proton.me/support/email-inbox-filters ).
